Le COQUELICOT 42 Athlétisme se souvient…..

La fleur coquelicot a été adoptée comme symbole du Souvenir à la mémoire des combattants tombés sur les champs de bataille lors de la Première Guerre Mondiale, pour le compte des pays Anglo-Saxons (Royaume-Uni, Canada, Etats-Unis, Australie, Nouvelle-Zélande…  ), à l’instar du bleuet pour la France.

En septembre 1919, quelques mois après la fin de la guerre, rescapés des tranchés, trois « Poilus » Stéphanois rendus à la vie civile, ont été fortement influencés par cette symbolique au moment de baptiser un nouveau club d’athlétisme lors de sa création le 12 septembre 1919 à Saint-Étienne : le CLUB ATHLETIQUE DU COQUELICOT.

Les trois fondateurs avaient pour noms : François Jacques MARTIN, Adrien BRUN et Marcel RACODON. Très vite rejoints par d’autres pionniers….

The COQUELICOT 42 Athletics remembers ... ..

The poppy flower was adopted as a symbol of Remembrance in memory of fighters who fell on the battlefield during the First World War on behalf of the Anglo-Saxon countries (United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Australia, New-Zealand ...), like cornflower for France.

In September 1919, a few months after the end of the war, survivors of the trenches, three "Poilus" of ST ETIENNE City returned to civilian life, were strongly influenced by this symbolism when baptizing a new athletics club when it was created on September 12, 1919 in Saint-Etienne: the COQUELICOT ATHLETIC CLUB
